ITS AP News: Inaugural Workshop of ITS Indonesia

 ITS Indonesia held the ITS Workshop on July 25th , 2011 as the first major event after the inauguration last April in conjunction with the 19th Indonesia International Motor Show.

The workshop was organized by ITS Indonesia with the support of the Association of Indonesia Automotive Industries and other private corporations. The program of the workshop had two parts. The first part was dedicated to the domestic people for the purpose of ITS outreach, and the second part was the international workshop to discuss ITS development and experiences, inviting the representatives from ITS Japan, ITS Malaysia, ITS New Zealand, ITS Taiwan and ITS Thailand.

Dr. Bambang Susantono, the Vice Minister of Transportation of Indonesia, mentioned at the opening address that as Indonesia has the second largest Facebook users and the fifth largest percentage in Twitter users in the world, the communications are useful as the source of traffic information. He also introduced the current ITS services in Indonesia such as Traffic Information & Management Center, Traffic Surveillance & Tracking System, ATCS , VMS and Bus Location System, concluding that PPP is the important as private sectors take the initiative and public sectors have the role of supporting the industries.

Blue Bird Group, a major taxi operator in Indonesia, said that the 8000 taxis with GPS provide the floating car data that can be used to improve traffic situation in Jakarta. CIKARANG Dry Port introduced the electronic seal for custom, quarantine and logistic of bonded goods. The system has the electronic devices with GPS for the seal, which is attached to containers.

Assigning Dr. Bambang Susantono for the president and Dr. Elly Sinaga, Director of Ministry of Transportation of Indonesia, for the secretary general, ITS Indonesia is the latest member of ITS Asia-Pacific which has twelve members as of today.
